Our Arts in Education performances provide professional theatre experiences for students at a reduced rate of admission, which is only available to school groups.We have five titles from the season that we are very excited to share with our school audiences, which range in target grade-level/age as well as in theme and style. The sweeping Pultizer Prize-winning masterpiece of the African-American experience by the great August Wilson. Former Negro League baseball star Troy Maxson is now in his 50’s – his glory days far behind him. He’s haunted over the success of black players who followed him and considers players like Jackie Robinson and Hank Aaron inferior to him. Troy attempts to assert control in his life through his relationships with his wife and son. But even as he takes responsibility for their safety and well-being, he betrays them each in ways that will forever alter their lives.

Akeelah and the Bee

Akeelah is an 11- year old girl growing up in a tough Chicago neighborhood. She is surrounded by realistic obstacles many young people face—crime, violence, drug abuse and the stress of wanting a better life. When her teacher pressures her into competing in her school’s Spelling Bee, Akeelah meets other competitors from different walks of life. She rises to the challenge of the Bee and learns that through hard work, perseverance, and friendship, words can change her world.

CONNECTING TO THE CLASSROOM
All of our Arts in Education performances are accompanied by a standards-based study guide incorporating multiple subject areas to further enrich the Arts in Education experience. All of our lesson plans are based on Common Core/Georgia Standards of Excellence for the target grade levels of each show.
THEATRE TOURS and WORKSHOPS
In addition to attending performances, school groups may also go through the Springer Education Department to arrange tours of the historic Springer Opera House and/or fully customizable theatre workshops taught by professional actors and teaching artists. Tours and workshops can be scheduled to follow a performance or as a stand-alone field trip!

In order to reserve seats for your group, The Springer requires a 10% deposit of the total cost. This deposit will be subtracted from your overall balance, which is due on the date of the performance.

PAYMENT METHODS and COST
We can accept credit cards (over the phone or in person), checks (by mail or in person) or cash (in person only). Please use the payment method that works the best for you and your school! If you are in MCSD, please ask us about your district’s specific payment procedures.
All of our Arts in Education shows are $10.00 per seat. Please account for the total number in your reservation, which includes not only the students in attendance, but also all teachers, parents or chaperones.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN PARENTS BUY TICKETS TO THE SHOWS?
Parents can attend with a school, but we ask that they reserve a seat with the school group as a part of the total group count. We cannot always guarantee that parents buying single tickets will be able to sit with the class group.
AFTER I MAKE MY RESERVATION, CAN I CHANGE THE NUMBER OF SEATS IN MY GROUP?
You can increase your group number at any time, based on seating availability. Just give us a call! However, groups wishing to REDUCE the number of seats reserved have until ONE MONTH before the date of the performance. After the one month deadline, you are responsible for the full amount of your reservation.
IS THIS OFFER ONLY FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS?
Of course not! We also welcome private schools, day care facilities, and homeschool groups to our Arts in Education performances.
