Fall, Winter, and Spring Academy Sessions
The Springer Theatre Academy continues to offer classes even after summer is over! Classes during the summer focus on overarching skills: musical theatre, improvisation, voice and movement, scene study, and others. Our classes offered during the school year are more specialized and are always different… so be sure to check out our latest class offerings below! During Fall/Winter sessions, students can pick and choose which classes to take based on personal interest. Our Spring Break Academy session features a full-day rotation of classes themed around a different musical each year.
The Springer Theatre Academy offers the following class sessions during the 2019-20 school year:
FALL ACADEMY: Saturdays, October 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 9am-2pm
WINTER ACADEMY: Saturdays, January 11, 18, 25 and February 1 from 9am-2pm
SPRING BREAK ACADEMY: March 30 – April 3 9am-5pm
Fall Academy 2019
Students may take 1, 2 or 3 classes depending on age eligibility. Each class block costs $90. T-shirts may be purchased for $10.
Class Descriptions for Fall Academy 2019
Let’s All Play – 2nd Block
Geared for our youngest students and their caregivers, this class will introduce beginning theatrical concepts such as expression, sensory skills and social play. Each class will focus on a children’s book and include music, crafts and movement and encourage parent-child connection. Each registration includes one child and up to two caregivers.
Incredibles!– 1st Block
Boom! Bam! Pow! Calling all superheroes. This class will focus on the incredible powers of the body, voice and imagination through a creative, game-based curriculum. Students will leave this class empowered to be the good they want to see in this world. Superheroes, assemble!
The Lion King– 1st Block
In the jungle, the mighty jungle… students will explore the classic story of The Lion King through creative play, imagination, crafts and storytelling!
Musical Theatre Jr – 2nd Block
5-6 yr & 1st-2nd Grade
Back by popular demand! Establish and develop musical theatre skills including singing, dancing and stage presence in a fun and accepting environment!
Musical Theatre – 1st Block
An exciting way to develop characters, relationships, scenes and stage presence, while
singing and dancing through musical numbers from the great Broadway shows of today
I Like To Move It! Move It! – 2nd Block
A creative exploration class that will challenge students to use their body to build and sustain characters through physical movement. Learn to focus your wiggles into purpose-filled acting choices.
It’s Magic! – 3rd Block
Ta-Da! Students will become masters of sleight-of-hand trickery, card tricks and illusions. Learn how the greats like Harry Houdini, David Copperfield and Carter the Great relied on theatrical presentation to wow their audiences.
Stagecraft – 1st Block
Students will receive an OSHA approved crash course in the world of technical theatre. Sets, lights, sound, props and costumes all rely on a keen vision from the designers who create the magic of live theatre. Students will have priority to opportunities for technical internships in this class.
Acting Techniques – 2nd Block
In this class, students will have the opportunity to sharpen their tools in the actor’s studio. See what it means to live truthfully under given circumstances and bring text to life through voice and movement.
Stilt-walking – 3rd Block
Back by popular demand! Learn to walk on stilts and so much more! Students who finish this class are eligible to join the Springer Stilt Team.
Theatre Dance – 3rd Block
This focused study of dance in theatre will allow students a deeper dive on the practice of creative movement and better prepare them for dance auditions. See how Agnes de Mille, Bob Fosse, Gower Champion and Twyla Tharpe all helped to shape musical theatre as we know it today!
Information and Policies:
- Payments can be accepted as cash, check, or credit card. All fully online registrations require credit card payment.
- A non-refundable deposit of $25 is required with registration. Without this, your place in the class is not reserved.
- Full payment is due on or before the first day of class.
- We accept registrations up to the first day of classes, based on availability.
- Academy t-shirts which are required dress code are available for purchase at check-in for $10.00.
- Upon registration and deposit, you will receive a confirmation email and balance statement.
- Drop-off and Pick-up will be at the Springer’s McClure Theater lobby on the 1st Ave. side of the building.
