Summer Teaching Artist

Musical Director

The Musical Director is responsible for the overall quality and integrity of the vocal and instrumental components of all Springer Opera House musical productions, including Main Stage, Studio, and Children’s Theatre productions. The Musical Director is hired and answers to the Artistic Director and Director of Production. The Musical Director collaborates with the Director, Choreographer, Stage Manager, Conductor, Orchestra, Audio Engineer, and Production Team in preparing a theatre production for public performance. The Musical Director will also collaborate with the Springer Theatre Academy to assure proper musical training to all Theatre Academy students. 

Start Date: April 1, 2024


Paint Charge

The SCENIC ARTIST is a seasonal contract employee serving under the Director of Production during the 2024-2025 season. This position serves as the Paint Charge on all Springer Opera House productions for the duration of the contract. The Scenic Artist is responsible for the execution and maintenance of all Springer Opera House productions, dealing primarily with scenic painting and other duties as required.

Term of contract: 40 Weeks (August 12, 2024 to May 11, 2025)
TOTAL COMPENSATION: $450 per week + Housing provided / $550 without housing


Cutter / Draper

The CUTTER/DRAPER is a seasonal contract employee serving under the Resident Costume Designer during the 2024-2025 season. The CUTTER/DRAPER assists in all aspects of costuming including building, alterations, maintenance, costume shop organization, and strike. 

Term of contract: 40 Weeks (August 12, 2024 to May 11, 2025)
TOTAL COMPENSATION: $450 per week + Housing provided / $550 without housing


Production Apprenticeship

The Springer's Production Apprenticeship Program provides a rewarding and challenging experience for recent college graduates actively pursuing careers in professional technical theatre. Geared towards bridging the gap between academic and professional life, this program offers hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a professional theatre while still earning wages comparable to industry standards. Apprentices get the chance to enhance their professional skills through close collaboration with Springer staff and artists. Successful participation in this program requires effective teamwork and competence in the specific area of interest. All positions are paid.

Areas of Focus include Stage Management, Costuming, Scenic, Props, Lighting, and Sound

PROGRAM BENEFITS:

  • Work for a year with the Historic State Theatre of Georgia

  • $325/week starting pay.

  • Leadership role in at least one show in the Springer Season in area of focus (Designer, Stage Manager, Master Carpenter, etc.)

  • Supporting role in at least 3 shows in the Springer Season in area of focus (ASM, Wardrobe Head, Carpenter, A2, etc.)

  • Acquire portfolio materials with guidance from Springer staff

  • Mentorship from Springer Staff and Guest Artists

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in theatre and/or at least 1 year of experience in area of focus

  • Reliable transportation

  • Positive attitude

  • Strong work ethic
