Say NO to the new Judicial Center Plan

COLUMBUS CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT IS PREPARING TO CONSTRUCT A NEW JUDICIAL CENTER ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE SPRINGER OPERA HOUSE

The current construction plan deviates substantially from what was presented to voters in 2021. After the SPLOST passed the administration failed to inform citizens and neighborhood stakeholders of the dramatic changes to the design resulting from increased construction costs. Prior to unveiling the new design in September 2023, neither the voters nor the stakeholders were provided updates on the status of the project. The City merely pressed forward without community involvement.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOUR STATE THEATRE?

  • The Springer is a fragile 153 year old Historic Landmark and could experience irreparable harm during construction and demolition if an eight-story building is erected 100 feet from our front door.

  • Tenth Street parking would be completely eliminated with this new plan

  • Springer programming will be disrupted during  construction

  • There will be a shadow on the Springer for much of the year.

  • 50% of the green space along 10th Street would be wiped out.

  • The main entrance of the Judicial Center would face 9th Street and the railroad tracks.

IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE CITY PRESS “PAUSE”, INVITE THE NEIGHBORING UPTOWN STAKEHOLDERS INTO THE PROCESS AND DEVISE A PLAN WITH AN EYE TOWARD BOTH THE PAST AND THE FUTURE.
