Akeelah and the Bee

Akeelah is an 11- year old girl growing up in a tough Chicago neighborhood. When her teacher pressures her into competing in her school’s Spelling Bee, Akeelah meets other competitors from different walks of life. She rises to the challenge of the Bee and learns that through hard work, perseverance, and friendship, words can change her world.

Children’s Theatre Series - McClure Theatre

**February 29 at 2pm will be a Sensory Friendly Performance. During this performance, we have added accommodations for patrons with sensory-processing disorders, PTSD or Autism. For instance, house lights will remain half lit, trigger-warning lights may illuminate and we will offer a safe space in our lobby for over-stimulated patrons. This is not a condensed show.

Arts in Education performances provide professional theatre experiences for students at a reduced rate of admission, which is only available to school groups.

Akeelah and the Bee Arts in Education performances are February 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28 (Performances at 9:30am and 11:30am)
