Cantus Columbus hosts Farewell Concert at the Springer
With this performance Cantus Columbus completes its twenty-year tenure as the city’s first and only professional chorus. After performing in excess of 650 compositions and arrangements in some 40 concerts, all under the direction of Dr. William J. Bullock and including pianist Janie Lee Bullock, the chorus presents its farewell concert at the Springer Opera House, the venue where, on June 1, 2000, it gave its inaugural performance.
This concert completes a seven-concert collaborative series with the celebrated Vega Quartet, presenting arrangements of songs by the founders of the Great American Songbook (the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards of the early twentieth century). It gleans favorite selections from three previous concerts devoted individually to three songwriters (Rodgers & Hart in 2008, Jerome Kern in 2014, and Irving Berlin in 2019). Other concerts in the series offered songs by Cole Porter (2007) and George & Ira Gershwin (2010), in separate and combined (2016) concerts.
The performance will take place at 7:30PM on November 21, 2020
