“I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of legacy recently, of what people remember far after a time or person has passed.”

Good morning/ afternoon/ evening! This is a strange time, isn’t it? I have been thinking about you and your families a lot. It’s great to ‘connect’ through this letter, though I wish I could hug your necks!

This extra time has given me lots of time to be a mama. My 8 year old Evie and I have been reading Harry Potter in addition to her school work and reading. Our 3 year old Ben (or Ben Ben as we affectionately call him) has loved being home with my husband and me. We have spent time riding bikes, blowing bubbles, watching movies and baking. Ben Ben has also learned how to make Mommy’s coffee in the morning— life skills though Coronavirus skills.

Right now, I’m reading Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. It has really challenged some of my assumptions about people in prison and our justice system. Just Mercy has recently been released as a movie. I’m looking forward to Netflixing that soon too. I’ve enjoyed the book— take a read!

So far, my favorite activity in this quarantine has been CHALKING! Ben, Evie and I have been sidewalk chalking their friends’ driveways as a surprise. It has been so fun! Ben adds scribbles and Evie and I draw hearts, rainbows and encouraging words. We always leave chalk for others to pay it forward!

I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of legacy recently, of what people remember far after a time or person has passed. I encourage you to think about your OWN legacy— how your family or friends will remember you in this time of strange struggle, in unexpected separation. Work every day—every minute— to support people around you.
